Intranet Connections has been designed to maximize the flexibility of securing your intranet. With AD integration enabled, your intranet users and group memberships can be driven directly from Active Directory allowing for a seamless and automated, real-time data sync.
With Intranet Connections you are in control of how much, or how little, security you require for your
site. You can choose a wide open intranet with no security, an intranet
with only specific content secured or an intranet with high security that
demands a login for each user. You can also opt to use AD Authentication and Integration with Active Directory, thereby eliminating the duplication of user and group memberships and logins for the intranet. These features are built-in and super simple to implement.
The following provides a basic overview of the security options and
functions within Intranet Connections.
Site Level Security
Intranet Connections has the option of being an open site where there is no
login requirement unless accessing a secured area within the intranet, or you can set security to create a closed site whereby all users must login to access any area of the site. All usernames and passwords are maintained and managed within the product and can by synchronized with Active Directory.
AD Integration
A built-in, automated data sync with Active Directory allows you to fully integrate your intranet site's user and group memberships with Active Directory. If a change is made within the AD environment, the change will reflect automatically on the intranet site. AD integration is simple, seamless and the site does the work. No consultants or extensive setups required. Enable AD integration, user authentication and single login for the site within minutes.
AD Authentication and Single Login
With a simple setting in the Administration Site you can enable AD Authentication for a single login for the intranet. This will pass the user's AD login credentials to the intranet so that users do not have to perform a separate login for the site. Multiple Domain setup supported. AD Authentication can be enabled apart from AD integration.
Content Security
Content can be secured for add, edit, delete or view permissions at the
category level within each application. Default permissions are provided
when creating new categories for an application, but can easily be changed as
required. If content is view-secured, the site will tailor the content based on the user who is logged in.
User Level
To maximize flexibility, there are a number of options to control and manage
user level security:
| Individual User Profiles - grant permissions for individuals to
override specific content security. Allow for user John Smith to view secured content, or to add, edit or delete content throughout the applications. Unlimited users can be set to publish content to the site |
| Group Profiles - groupings of individual user profiles where the
group profile is granted permissions to override specific content security |
| Content Approval Managers - Assign Content Approval Managers to manage and approve/decline pending content to the site. Built-in worfklow provided |
| Department Page Administrators - Department Admins have management rights over the department pages assigned to them, including the option to create department navigation, clone applications, style the department page and add custom content |
| Application Owners - Full rights to all content for a specific application, as well as all configuration and customization options for their assigned application(s) |
| Site Administrators - Full rights to all content on the site as well as all
configuration and customization options within the Administration area. |
Site Administrator(s)
Intranet Connections allows for unlimited Site Administrators, however typically one or a handful of Site Administrators are assigned to oversee the intranet and to be the contact person(s) for the site. This designation allows for high-level access to the entire site and exclusive access to the Administration Site where global settings, site design, site security and application properties reside. The Site Administrator can assign other staff members to manage the site for sharing of duties or vacation coverage. All tasks within the Administration Site are user-friendly and browser based, with help screens and tutorials to walk you through functionality.
Application Owners
The Site Administrator can delegate management over specific applications by assigning Application Owners. Application Owners have full permissions over their designated applications and can publish, modify and remove content within their areas. An example of this would be to assign your HR department ownership of the Job Postings application.
Extranet Capabilities
By implementing site level security and leveraging group permissions, you have the ability to create an extranet environment within your intranet site. This can be accomplished when AD integration is enabled. Content will display based on who is logged into the site and what view permissions they have. For example, your extranet users can be set up so that they do not have access to secured internal content which is only visible to internal users. The site can also be designed for Divisions or outside office personnel to only see the content that is pertinent to their office.
